RESEARCH INTERESTS
Hi!! My name is Avinash "Avi" Unnikrishnan and I am an Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering at West Virginia University, Morgantown. I am interested in enhancing system sustainability and efficiency by developing novel traffic and freight network equilibrium models. In my research, I apply network optimization and simulation algorithms to optimize the planning and operations of traffic, transit and freight networks. A significant portion of my work deals with mitigating the impact of uncertainty in transportation models. I adopt a multi-disciplinary research approach and have developed and applied concepts from diverse areas such as operations research, economics, computer science, statistics and traffic engineering to solve problems in transportation and freight networks. The details of my research can be found in my publications and projects page. In case you are interested in pursuing graduate studies, collaborating on research or doing under-graduate research work, feel free to contact me at: Avinash "dot " Unnikrishnan "at" mail "dot" wvu "dot" edu.
Some of the research topics in which I am interested in working are listed below.
- Network Equilibrium Models : Traffic Assignment Models Accounting for Information provision, Online Route choice, Uncertainty in Transportation Networks, Multimodal Transportation Networks
- Freight and Logistics : Stochastic and Dynamic Freight Network Shipper Carrier Models, Modeling Freight Emissions, Carrier Collaborations, Impact of Uncertainty in Strategic Shipper Carrier Operations
- Dynamic Traffic Assignment : Simulation and Modeling of Large Scale Dynamic Traffic Networks, Evaluating Intelligent Transportation Systems
- Econometrics : Discrete Spatial Econometric Models, Safety issues associated with HDTs
- Infrastructure Systems : Analytical Models for Traffic Networks under Multiple Ownerships, Impact of Infrastructure deterioration on Route Choice
- Traffic Operations and Control : Pricing under Uncertainty, Multi-Resolution Analysis for studying local/network level impacts of operational decisions like ramp closure/metering
